High blood pressure- what is high? What are the Symptoms, Causes, and more

According to, High blood pressure (HBP or hypertension) is when your blood pressure, the force at which your blood flows against the artery walls, is consistently too high. In simple language, when the heart functions, it creates pressure that pushes blood through a network of vessels.

High blood pressure causes harm due to the increased א workload of the heart and blood vessels — making them work harder. Over time, this high systolic pressure causes the degradation of delicate tissue inside the arteries. The more the damage, the thinner the arteries become, which bring on a multitude of other risk factors such as heart attacks, strokes and cardiac arrests.

People with high blood pressure often experience other health problems (symptoms) which include shortness of breath, fatigue, headaches, temporary loss of sight, nosebleeds, etc. It is a silent killer and unless treated, can increase your risk for fatal heart conditions.

Hypertension includes numerous factors which can develop over time. Most people have this type of high blood pressure.

The medical fraternity is unsure of the factors that cause blood pressure to increase. Some of the reasons that may cause fluctuation in blood pressure readings include:

Genes: Some people suffer from hypertension genetically. The diastolic pressure may be from gene mutations which have been inherited.

Physical changes: High blood pressure may be a result of a change in the body such as kidney functions or balance of salts and liquids. It is good to keep an eye with a

symptom checker and watch out for signs.

Environment: Work pressure, depression, unhealthy lifestyle choices, etc. can also lead to high blood pressure.

If you are suffering from hypertension, be sure to manage high blood pressure by getting

checked regularly with blood pressure monitors and follow the advice of doctors.
