Short Description
Wegovy 1mg is an injectable form of semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It is generally used, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, to support weight management in adults with obesity or excess weight who also have weight-related health conditions. The 1mg strength is typically used as a dose-escalation step during treatment.
What Is Wegovy 1mg?
Wegovy 1mg contains semaglutide, a once-weekly injectable medicine belonging to a class known as GLP-1 receptor agonists. It works by acting on gut hormone pathways involved in appetite and blood sugar regulation.
This strength is generally used partway through the standard dose-escalation schedule, as treatment is typically started at a lower dose and increased gradually over several weeks under medical supervision. Wegovy is not a form of insulin and is not the same product as Ozempic, which is approved for a different indication.
Uses
Wegovy 1mg may be prescribed to:
Support weight management, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, in adults with obesity, or with excess weight (overweight) along with at least one weight-related health condition
The appropriate treatment and dose should be determined by a healthcare professional based on individual health needs.
How Does Wegovy Work?
Wegovy works by mimicking a natural gut hormone called GLP-1. By activating GLP-1 receptors, it helps regulate appetite and food intake signals in the brain, slows down how quickly the stomach empties, and supports more stable blood sugar levels.
These combined effects generally contribute to reduced appetite and gradual weight loss over time. Noticeable effects typically develop gradually over the weeks of dose escalation, and results can vary between individuals.
How to Take Wegovy
Take Wegovy exactly as prescribed by your healthcare professional.
Usually injected once weekly, on the same day each week
Can generally be taken with or without food
May be taken at any time of day
Injected subcutaneously (under the skin) into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm, rotating the injection site with each dose
Dose is typically increased gradually according to a prescribed schedule; do not stop or change your dose without speaking to your healthcare professional first
Missed dose: If a dose is missed, it should generally be administered as soon as possible within 5 days of the missed dose. If more than 5 days have passed, the missed dose should be skipped and the next dose taken on the regularly scheduled day. Speak with your pharmacist or doctor if you are unsure what to do after a missed dose.

Gallbladder disease
Kidney problems, particularly if experiencing dehydration

Wegovy may interact with other medicines, particularly:
Insulin or sulfonylureas (may increase the risk of low blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes)
Other medicines taken by mouth, as Wegovy can slow stomach emptying and affect how they are absorbed
Always check for possible interactions with a doctor or pharmacist before starting or combining medicines.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Wegovy is generally not recommended during pregnancy, as animal studies suggest a potential risk to the developing baby and there is limited data in humans; treatment is typically stopped in advance of a planned pregnancy. It is also generally not recommended while breastfeeding due to limited safety data. Anyone who is pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding should speak with their doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine, as recommendations may vary depending on individual circumstances and local guidance.
