Short Description
Generic Nebivolol 2.5mg Tablets contain nebivolol, a cardioselective beta-blocker used mainly to manage high blood pressure (hypertension). By acting on the cardiovascular system, nebivolol helps lower blood pressure and ease the workload on the heart. It may also be used, under specialist supervision, as part of treatment for certain cases of chronic heart failure.
What Is Nebivolol 2.5mg?
Nebivolol 2.5mg Tablets contain the active ingredient nebivolol, delivered as nebivolol hydrochloride. It belongs to a class of medicines known as beta-blockers, specifically a selective beta-1 blocking agent, meaning it primarily targets receptors involved in heart rate and blood vessel function rather than acting broadly throughout the body.
In treatment, nebivolol is used to help control blood pressure and support heart function. The 2.5mg strength is commonly used as a starting dose for certain patient groups, or as part of a tablet-splitting regimen for chronic heart failure, rather than as a standard maintenance dose for all patients.
Uses
Nebivolol 2.5mg may be prescribed to:
Treat raised blood pressure (hypertension)
Support the management of certain cases of chronic heart failure, alongside other heart failure therapies
The appropriate use, strength, and duration of treatment should always be determined by a healthcare professional based on individual health needs.
How Does Nebivolol Work?
Nebivolol works by selectively blocking beta-1 receptors in the heart, which helps slow the heart rate and reduce the force of each heartbeat. It also has a mild vasodilating effect, meaning it helps relax and widen blood vessels. Together, these actions reduce the strain on the heart and help lower blood pressure.
For blood pressure control, the effect generally becomes noticeable after one to two weeks of regular use, and the full benefit may take up to four weeks to develop. Effects can vary between individuals.
How to Take Nebivolol 2.5mg
Take Nebivolol 2.5mg Tablets exactly as prescribed by your healthcare professional.
Usually taken once daily, at around the same time each day
Can generally be taken with or without food, and with a glass of water
Do not stop or change your dose without speaking to your doctor first, particularly if you are being treated for heart failure
If you miss a dose and remember shortly afterwards, take that day's dose as usual; if it is close to the time of your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue as normal — do not take a double dose
Your healthcare professional will determine the appropriate dose and any adjustments based on your individual needs.
