Lenangio
The active ingredient in the drug is Lenalidomide. Lenangio is a generic drug that contains exactly the same active ingredients of the Revlimid drug (Revlid).
The drug is used to treat multiple myeloma (bone marrow cancer) and in fact is an advanced (second generation) drug of thalidomide, which has also been developed to treat multiple myeloma.
Lenangio is associated with a group of drugs whose common denominator is their action on the immune system (immunomodulatory drugs). It was also found that the drug has the ability to reduce the development of blood vessels required for cancer cells to spread in the body. In addition to treating multiple myeloma, Lenangio is also used to treat a range of other health conditions (myelodysplastic syndrome) in which the bone marrow is damaged by the production of healthy blood cells. The drug is also used to treat certain types of anemia.
Taking the drug may lead to the occurrence of genetic defects in infants and therefore it is forbidden to pregnant women. During treatment, patients (both men and women) are required to use contraception and avoid getting pregnant.
In addition, the drug may cause disruption of the immune system. It may also cause anemia and an increased tendency for bleeding.
Lenangio is manufactured by Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, an Indian pharmaceutical company headquartered in Hyderabad. The company was established in 1984 by Dr. Angie Rady, and has been focusing on the manufacture of generic drugs, but is currently engaged in independent research and development of original drugs, which operates internationally, including the American market and is supervised by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
